Last Updated: Jun 30, 2016 05:01PM CDT
Installing Microsoft 365 Education is an easy process.   This guide will walk you through the download and installation process for your Microsoft Office product.

Download and installing Microsoft Office

1.  Access “Your Microsoft Product is Ready!” email.

Once your academic verification has been processed, you will receive a separate email from Orders (orders@thinkedu.com) with the subject
line “Your Microsoft Product is Ready. ”

The email contains a link that you will need in order to begin your download process.  If you have yet to receive the email, check your spam or junk email folder.

Note – Please have handy your college's .EDU address (e.g. studentname@college.edu) that was issued to you by your school or college.   You will need this email address as Microsoft will use this address to verify your academic status.

2.  Click on the link in the email from ThinkEDU to begin the download process.

3.  Once the link is clicked, enter in your current school/college issued .EDU email address
(e.g. studentname@college.edu) in the designated field.  This will begin the academic verification process.  DO NOT enter a personal or work issued email address (e.g. Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.).  Once entered, click on the orange "Sign Up" text (below the field).

4.   An email will be sent to your school/college issued email address
(e.g. studentname@college.edu).  You will then see this screen.

5.  As the screen says, go check your school/college issued email email for a message from Microsoft.  If you don't see it, check your spam folder.  It should look like this:

6.  Once you open up the email, click the link in the email.  You can also copy the long link in the email to your browser.

7.  Once you click the link in the email, follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be required to set up a new Microsoft account that uses your school/college issued email address as your user name.  Do not use an existing Microsoft account.

8.  Before installing, be sure that your computer meets the system requirements and that no previous or trial version of Microsoft Office is installed.  (Also, make sure you have a back-up copy of your old version in case issues arise).

For Office System Requirements, go to www.office.microsoft.com/systemrequirements

A.  To start, you should uninstall (remove) any old copies of Microsoft Office off of your PC or Mac before you install this version of Microsoft Office 365.  To determine if you have a previous or trial version of Microsoft Office:

For Windows 7
a:     Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Programs and Features.
b:     Locate any previous or trial Office version listed as “Trial” or “Click-to-Run,” click Uninstall, and follow the instructions.

For Windows 8
a:      Navigate to the Desktop by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or by clicking the Desktop tile.
b:      Open the Charms bar by swiping in from the right hand edge of the screen for touch screen users or by moving your mouse to the right hand corners of the screen.
c:      Click Settings, click Control Panel, and then click Programs and Features.
d:      Locate any previous or trial Office version listed as “Trial” or “Click-to-Run,” click Uninstall, and follow the instructions.

For Windows 10

Here are some solutions to see installed programs under windows-10!

a:  Please run the MS Explorer via hot key [Windows + E] and in the address bar [ALT+D] enter the address: shell:programfiles  and you can see all installed programs in Windows 10 standard Programs Folder.
b:  To uninstall programs in Windows 10 , press the key combination [Win-Logo]+[X].
Here simply click on "Programs and Features" and open "Programs and Features" in Windows-10
Then select the installed program in Windows 10, and via right-click on the corresponding program, you will see an option to uninstall the program.

9.  Once you enter in the required information, you will see a screed similar to this.  To install Microsoft Office, click on the orange colored "Install Now" button:

.

10.  Once it has finished downloading, click the "Run" button as shown below.

* Tip - If you have issues downloading or if the progress bar of the download does not seem to be moving after about 15 or 20 minutes, it may be for one of the following reasons:
  • There may be a problem with your network connection. Make sure that your computer is still connected to the Internet.
  • Wireless connections have a minor latency that can cause corruption during transfers. Try connecting directly to your modem or router via a network cable and then restart the download.
  • The account you are using may not be authorized to download software to your computer. Make sure that you are logged in with an account that has administrative privileges.
  • Some networks used at schools/colleges or in offices have security programs in place. Try downloading from a different network.
  • Active firewalls, antivirus and antispyware programs can interfere with the download. Try turning off any security programs that you have on your computer.  (Note: Disabling antivirus/antispyware software while connected to the Internet or to a local network can create security risks, and may leave your computer vulnerable to attacks. Turn this software back on as soon as possible once you have completed the download.)
11.  Once downloaded, you will be able to sign in to your account.  At this point you can use any email address to an existing Microsoft account or the new one you created. Once done, your software will be available for use.

11:  Go here to find out where to find your Apps (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) after installation:

12.  General FAQ's about Microsoft Office 365 Education can be found here:  https://thinkedu.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/2134879?b_id=4723

13:  Now that you installed Microsoft Office 365 Education on your Mac or PC, you may want to install in on your iPad, or iPhone. Microsoft Office 365 University can be installed on up to two (2) PC's or Macs.  If you have an iPad or iPhone you can also install the free Apps from the Apple App Store on to your iPAD or iPhone.  You need to download Word, Powerpoint, and Excel apps as these are all separate.  Once downloaded to your iPad or iPhone, to save any work you need to activate the apps by putting in your email address that you used to sign into your Microsoft account (same one you used when setting up/installing Office 365 on your PC or Mac).

Enjoy!!
