How do I install Office 365 Education?

Last Updated: Apr 12, 2019 02:12PM CDT
Before installing, be sure that your computer meets the system requirements and no previous or trial version of Microsoft Office is installed.
(Make sure you have a back-up copy of your old version in case issues arise)

For Office System Requirements, go to www.office.microsoft.com/systemrequirements

To uninstall previous versions, follow the steps at the bottom of this guide

To install Office 365 Education, follow the steps below;

1.  Access “Your Microsoft Product is Ready!” email.

Once your academic verification has been processed, you will receive a separate email from us (orders@thinkedu.com) with the subject “Your Microsoft Product is Ready. ”

The email contains a link that you will need in order to begin your download process.  If you have yet to receive this email, check your email’s spam or junk folder.

Note – Please have handy your .EDU email address (e.g. studentname@college.edu) that was issued to you by your school or college.   You will need this email address as Microsoft will use this address to verify your academic status.

2.  Click on the link in the email from ThinkEDU to begin the download process.

3.   Enter in your current school/college issued .EDU email address

Example: studentname@college.edu in the designated field.  This will begin the academic verification process.  DO NOT enter a personal or work issued email address (e.g. Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.).  Once entered, click on the orange "Sign Up" text (below the email field).

4.   An email will be sent to your school/college issued email address

You will then see this screen;

5.  Check your school/college issued email for an email from Microsoft.

 If you don't see it, check your spam folder.  It should look like this:

6.  Click the link in the email.

You can also copy the long link in the email to your browser.

7.   Follow the on-screen instructions.

8. Set up a new Microsoft account

Setup a new account with your school/college issued email address as your user name.  Do not use an existing Microsoft account.

9. Click Install Now

 Once you enter in the required information, you will see a screen similar to the image below.  To install Microsoft Office, click on the orange colored "Install Now" button:

.

10.  Click “Run”

Once it has finished downloading, click the "Run" button as shown below.

* Tip - If you have issues downloading or if the progress bar of the download does not seem to be moving after about 15 or 20 minutes, it may be for one of the following reasons:
  • There may be a problem with your network connection. Make sure that your computer is still connected to the Internet.
  • Wireless connections have a minor latency that can cause corruption during transfers. Try connecting directly to your modem or router via a network cable and then restart the download.
  • The account you are using may not be authorized to download software to your computer. Make sure that you are logged in with an account that has administrative privileges.
  • Some networks used at schools/colleges or in offices have security programs in place. Try downloading from a different network.
  • Active firewalls, antivirus and antispyware programs can interfere with the download. Try turning off any security programs that you have on your computer.  (Note: Disabling antivirus/antispyware software while connected to the Internet or to a local network can create security risks, and may leave your computer vulnerable to attacks. Turn this software back on as soon as possible once you have completed the download.)

11.  Sign In

Once downloaded, you will be able to sign in to your account.  At this point you can use any email address to an existing Microsoft account or the new one you created. Once done, your software will be available for use.

Microsoft Office 365 University can be installed on up to two (2) PC's or Macs.  If you have an iPad or iPhone you can also install the free Apps from the Apple App Store on to your iPAD or iPhone.  You need to download Word, Powerpoint, and Excel apps separately.

Once downloaded to your iPad or iPhone, to save any work you need to activate the apps by putting in the email address that you used to sign into your Microsoft account (same one you used when setting up/installing Office 365 on your PC or Mac).
